Women Leading Flag: Role Models & Representation
Women Leading Flag (WLF) is a Flag Star initiative created to grow women’s leadership and visibility in girls flag football across the DMV. While women make up nearly half of all athletes, they hold less than 30% of leadership roles in sports—coaching, officiating, and decision-making positions included. This initiative exists to help change that.
At its core, this work is about access, opportunity, and representation—making space for women and girls to see themselves and develop as leaders in sport.
We’re building a community of 150 women ready to show up as coaches, officials, organizers, and role models—on and off the field. No football background is required. What matters is presence, curiosity, and a desire to create safe, empowering spaces for girls. Through training, mentorship, and hands-on experience, participants will support girls leagues throughout the DC metropolitan area, helping bridge long-standing gaps in access and leadership for young women in sports. Select participants will also have the opportunity to lead and staff an all-women game experience with Monumental Sports—a milestone moment for visibility and representation.
This is more than a program. It’s a movement to change what leadership in sport looks like.
